Former Dematha standout Victor Oladipo impresses crowd at midnight madness

Will Barton of the Memphis Tigers is named to C-USA preseason 2nd team

Will BartonBarton, a consensus top-15 national recruit, comes to Memphis after playing at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire in 2009-10. In his one season at Brewster, the 6-foot-6 guard averaged 20.8 points in helping lead the Bobcats to a 35-4 overall record and the National Prep Championship crown. Barton was named the MVP of the National Prep Championship tournament after scoring 24 points in the title game. He was also selected the New England Preparatory School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC) Class A Player of the Year for 2009-10.


Following the 2009-10 campaign, Barton played in two all-star games. The Baltimore, Md., native scored 15 points in the Jordan Brand Classic, which was played in Madison Square Garden in New York City. He also participated in the Nike Hoops Summit, which was held in Portland, Ore

f his way to compare Selby to Collins, saying Selby reminds him of a “bigger Sherron,” and why not? This is Kansas, and, as Self enters his eighth season in Lawrence, he understands that Selby’s Jayhawks will be as good or better than Collins’ Jayhawks for no other reason than that they have to be......

Some of the DMV finest make John R. Wooden preseason top 50 list.

The DMV has been represented well in college basketball over the last few years. Some of the most phenomenal players have gone through the college ranks and carried their skills onto the NBA. The players are NCAA tourney MVP, Carmelo Anthony, 2007 player of the year Kevin Durant, Michael Beasley, Tywon Lawson, Donte Green, Jeff Green and a few other names.
    So for the 2010-2011 year a few players who played their high school basketball in the D.C, Maryland and Virginia area have made the prestigious John R. Wooden preseason top 50 list.


*Malcolm Delaney - Virginia Tech’s 6’3 shooting guard from Baltimore, MD. Malcolm averaged 20.2ppg 3.7rpg 4.4apg last season.






*Kris Joseph – Syracuse’s 6’7 wingman from Montreal, Canada, but attended high school in the greater DC area for his junior and senior year. Also, he played for DC Assault on the AAU circuit. Joseph averaged 10.8ppg 5.1rpg 1.7ast 1.3spg last season. Those stats helped him become Big East Sixth man of the year.





*Nolan Smith – Duke’s 6’2 point/ shooting guard is from Upper Marlboro, MD. He attended a few neighboring high schools in Maryland before transferring to Oak Hill academy. Smith averaged 17.4ppg 2.8rpg 3.0apg, which helped lead his team to a National Championship






*Austin Freeman – Georgetown’s 6’4 shooting guard from Mitchellville, MD attended powerhouse DeMatha Catholic high school. Freeman averaged 16.5ppg 3.5rpg 2.4apg

Quinn Cook, a rising senior at Oak Hill Academy in Virginia, is one of the top recruits in the country. He has currently narrowed his college list down to Villanova, Duke, North Carolina, UCLA, and Kansas. The 6-1, 180-pound guard from Maryland transferred this summer to national powerhouse Oak Hill Academy............

Dematha's Mikael Hopkins commits to Georgetown.


   

DeMatha forward Mikael Hopkins on Tuesday night committed to play for Georgetown.
Hopkins, who is 6 feet 9 and 215 pounds, picked the Hoyas after considering Maryland, Virginia Tech, Miami, West Virginia, Texas and Ohio State.
"I feel as though i fit [Georgetown's] system well," Hopkins said. "And it's close to home and I have a little sister who I want to have come to my games."
Hopkins said he also liked Georgetown's "tradition of getting big men to the [NBA] and their program. THey have a great program
