Oliver Purnell and DePaul have found them a diamond in the rough.

Brandon Young is a 6'3 175 stellar freshman point guard. He is from Baltimore, MD, but attended Friendship Collegiate Academy in Washington DC.

Young was a special case among high school basketball players. He only had a few scholarships offers from mid major division 1 schools. Then he joined the Team Takeover AAU program in the summer of 2009. They were a Nike Elite team and attended a number of tournaments, but Young still flew under the radar. Then the premier event of the summer approached. It was the Nike Summer Peach Jam, and Young showed his true colors, performing with major division 1 talent. This tournament he did not go unnoticed. He received many offers from power conferences such as the Big Ten, ACC, and Big East.

As the summer ended Young gave a verbal to DePaul, but shortly after the coach who had recruited him was fired, he de-committed. Then a well known coach in Oliver Purnell was hired by DePaul to feel the coaching vacancy. Young soon recommitted to DePaul.

Even that they are taking this as a rebuilding year, if has been great for Young to get his feet wet in Big East play. Young has received Big East rookie of the week honors once this season and plans to keep it going.

Young is averaging: 11.9 ppg 3.8 apg 2.8 rpg
